About me

I’m Nicholas Evans, a plant scientist turned tropical agriculture and agribusiness specialist originally from the UK now resident in Spain. I care deeply about the social, environmental and economic role agriculture has in Africa and its importance for a sustainable future.

I started this journey in 2002 with a technical placement in Neno, Southern Malawi and have gone on to work with organisations at all stages of development from start- ups to scaling up and re-orientating towards new opportunities. This equips me with practical tools to address risk and challenges of conducting commercial agriculture in Africa.

Early identification of the potential digital technologies have to help manage the complexities of agribusiness, develop insights, base informed decision making to better understand what is going on. This has helped agribusiness operations manage large numbers of suppliers, remote operations and standard compliance

Initially working as a project manager for an ethical trading company to develop nut value chains out of Southern Africa, provided me with the opportunity to combine my technical knowledge with the challenges of organizing and structuring viable value chains. I went on to become a freelance consultant working alongside companies over extended periods developing their capacities to grow and develop. I am also familiar with the cooperation sector working on behalf of public sector donors, projects and consultancy companies to provide strategic advice and collaborate with partners.
